About the author

Chen Huowang (1936 02.05-2008 02.02) Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, professor and doctoral supervisor of the School of Computer of National University of Defense Technology, he was treated for illness on February 2, 2008 Invalid, passed away in Changsha at the age of 72.

Chen Huowang is a native of Anxi County, Fujian Province. He graduated from the Department of Mathematics of Fudan University in Shanghai in 1956. He joined the Communist Party of China in the same year and stayed on as an assistant teacher. He once studied at Peking University majoring in mathematical logic and the National Institute of Physics in the United Kingdom. In 1970, he was transferred to Changsha Institute of Technology (later renamed National University of Defense Technology) and served as associate professor, deputy dean, professor, doctoral tutor, and deputy dean of the Graduate School of Computer Science (Electronics). He was awarded the rank of major general in 1990. In 1997, he was elected as an academician of the Department of Information and Electronic Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Director of the Academic Committee of the State Key Laboratory of Software Engineering of Wuhan University, member of the Computer Discipline Appraisal Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, Director of the Computer Teaching Steering Committee of National Engineering Colleges, Member of the First Expert Committee of the National "863 Program" Information Field, China Software Industry Vice Chairman of the Association. In 1991, he was awarded the title of National Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions. In the same year, he won the first prize of Guanghua Science Foundation. He has long been engaged in the teaching and research of computer software and artificial intelligence.
