COMPARISON OF HONOR 7C AND XIAOMI REDMI NOTE 5

As the days go by, competition in the midrange segment is intensifying.  10,000 offers features such as facial recognition, dual rear camera setup, and an 18: 9 display.

DESIGN

When it comes to design, the Honor 7C is very similar to its predecessor, the 7X, with a metal unibody design with curved edges. The device feels firm in the hand and definitely looks premium. It has a good grip and does not attract fingerprints on the back.

The Redmi Note 5, on the other hand, has almost the same design as the Note 4, but with an 18: 92.5D curved glass screen with loosely rounded corners as a distinguishing factor. The mobile phone is 8.05mm thick and weighs about 180g. Even though it has a large screen, it can be stored compactly. The ratio of the screen to the main body is about 77%. Similar to the previous work, the center is a metallic finish, and the upper and lower parts of the back are plastic finish where the antenna is located.

Both smartphones have a good build quality, but the Honor 7C feels relatively light and fits easily on your wrist.

SCREEN

The display is bright, the text looks sharp, the color reproduction is the point, and the viewing angle is good. The honor 7c display is fully readable even in sunlight conditions and other outdoor scenarios. The device also provides screen color temperature adjustment — default, warm, cold.

The Redmi Note 55.99-inch Full HD + display, on the other hand, has a pixel resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and a pixel density of approximately 403 PPI. The display is bright thanks to the brightness of 450 nits and the contrast ratio is 1000: 1. It has good sunlight visibility because it has a solar display that uses hardware-level technology to adjust the contrast of each pixel in real-time. This makes the image less susceptible to glare.

CAMERA

The Honor 7C is equipped with a dual-camera setup — a 13MP rear camera with LED flash, f / 2.2 aperture, and a secondary 2MP camera. The front of the device is processed by an 8MP camera with an aperture value of f / 2.0. When it comes to actual usage, the daytime photos are very well detailed. The same is true for macro photography. The camera quickly focuses on the object. The 8MP front camera produces some excellent images, even considering the number specified in the spec sheet.

The Redmi Note 5 has a 12-megapixel rear camera with an aperture of f / 2.2 and an LED flash. It has a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with an f / 2.0 aperture and a selfie flash. When it comes to image quality, daytime shots are good in bright conditions, but some images are a bit dull. HDR shots are better, and macro shots are better. In dark places, there is a lot of noise in the image even if the LED flash is on.

SOFTWARE

Honor 7C is included in Android 8.1 (Oreo), which is based on EMUI 8.0. It also comes with a number of customization options such as one-handed UI, motion control, ride mode, and system navigation.

On the other hand, Redmi Note 5 is included in the old Android 7.1.2 (Nougat) with MIUI 9. MIUI 9 adds many features including improved notifications, split-screen, and improved apps such as MiDrop for transferring files between any Android devices without the need for an internet connection.

PERFORMANCE

The Honor 7C has an Octa-Core Snapdragon 450 14nm mobile platform with an Adreno 506 GPU inside. In our daily use, the device did not miss a beat and no stutters, hangs or lags were seen. Thanks to 4GB of RAM (in our unit), it handles everything no matter what you throw. I also played a fierce game on this phone and it wasn’t a problem at all.

Performance is good without delay, but companies can’t use the faster Snapdragon 630 SoC.

CONNECTION AND STORAGE

Both smartphones support connection options such as 4G VoLTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS. Honor 7C comes with its own SIM and MicroSD card slot.

The Honor 7C comes in two variations, 3GB RAM with 32GB storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage, and can also be expanded through a MicroSD card slot up to 256GB. Redmi Note 5 comes with 3GB of RAM with 32GB of storage and 4GB of RAM with 64GB of storage. It also has up to 128GB of expandable memory on the microSD.

BATTERY

As expected, the battery life was excellent, and even with frequent use, it could be used all day on a single charge. After all, for casual use, there is about a 25% charge left.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 has a built-in battery of 4000mAh. Battery life is good and will last for a day even with frequent use.
