Development History

In 1967, Applied Materials was established in Mountain View, USA.

In 1979, Applied Materials Japan Branch was established and officially entered the Asian market.

In 1981, Applied Materials launched the AME8100 etching system.

In 1984, Applied Materials started business in China and became the first foreign-funded semiconductor production equipment supplier to enter China.

In 1989, Applied Materials established an office in Taiwan.

In 1994, it launched a PVD (physical vapor deposition) product: Endura VHP PVD system.

In 2001, the China regional headquarters was established in Shanghai.

In 2002, Applied Materials established a Maydan Technology Center in Silicon Valley, California, USA.

In 2006, a global development center was established in Xi’an, China, to provide engineering and software support services to applied materials company branches around the world.

In 2012, Applied Materials established a semiconductor advanced packaging research center in Singapore to develop 3D chip packaging technology.

In 2013, Gary E. Dickerson was appointed President and CEO of Applied Materials.

In 2014, Applied Materials celebrated its 30th anniversary in China.

In 2016, the revolutionary selective etching system Producer® Selectra™ system was launched.

2017 is the 50th anniversary of the founding of Applied Materials.

In 2018, Applied Materials announced the establishment of the Materials Engineering Technology Accelerator (META Center) at the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute in Albany, New York.

The total R&D investment in 2019 reached US$2.1 billion.

In November 2019, Applied Materials announced the official opening of the Materials Engineering Technology Accelerator (META Center), which is a program designed to help customers accelerate new materials, new process technologies and new A pioneering facility for the speed of equipment prototype development.

In April 2021, Applied Materials announced the launch of AIx™, an innovative platform designed to accelerate the discovery, development and commercial deployment of new chip technologies.

In May 2021, Applied Materials announced the launch of a series of material engineering solutions to provide storage customers with three new ways to further scale down DRAM, and accelerate the improvement of chip performance, power, area, cost and market launch Time (ie: PPACt).

In June 2021, Applied Materials introduced a new advanced logic chip wiring process technology, which can be scaled down to 3nm and below technology nodes.

The Chinese market

In 1984, Applied Materials established a China Customer Service Center in Beijing, becoming the first international chip manufacturing equipment company to enter China.

In 2006, Applied Materials established a global development center in Xi'an.

Since 2021, Applied Materials and Shaanxi Women and Children’s Development Foundation have jointly initiated the “Walking with the Silk Road—Xi’an Urban Cultural and Artistic Care Project”, and in the same year, the “Applied Materials "Mei Lecture Hall" series of public welfare lectures.
