Spreadthetime

"OldTangBook" onlycirculatedforaboutahundredyears, anditwasmetwithbadluck.FromtheQinglireignofSongRenzong, theNorthernSongDynastycourtconsideredthe "OldTangBook" tobemiscellaneousandimprecise, andorderedSongQiandOuyangXiutocompilethebookofTangDynasty.ThisTangbookwaswrittenin1060 (thefifthyearofJiayouRenzongoftheSongDynasty) andbeganto "publishthebookintheworld." Sincethen, theTangbookcompiledbyLiuZhuhasceasedtocirculate.

UntiltheseventeenthyearofJiajingintheMingDynasty (1538), WenRenQuan, anativeofYuyao, Zhejiang, borrowedtheOldTangBookcollectedbylocalpeopleinSuzhou, andaskedSuzhouFutolearnandteachShenTonginSuzhouFuXueliproofreadsthemanuscriptsandprintsthem (WenRenquanleftSuzhouinthemiddleofthework, butthemattercontinuedwiththesupportofmanyparties) .After478yearsofroughfate, thebookofTangDynastybyLiuYuwasobtainedagain.Reissue.

SocialEvaluation

BecauseSongQiandOuyangXiu,theauthorsof"NewBookofTangDynasty",arebothliteraryfigures,anddescendantsgenerallyfollowtheirviews,andhaveaviewof"OldBookofTangDynasty".Therewerealotofderogations,andGuYanwucommentedonitas"quitealotoftrouble"attheendofMingDynasty.Indeed,ithasmanyshortcomings.Butinallfairness,itshouldbesaidthatthe"OldTangBook"hasitsgreatcontributiontothetruthfulpreservationofhistoricalmaterials.Thispointshouldbefullyaffirmed.

Whydoyousaythis?Firstofall,thefirst-handhistoricalmaterialsoftheTangDynastyarepreservedinthe"OldTangBook".Inthe300-yearhistoryoftheTangDynasty,therehavebeenwarsandchaosrepeatedly,andtheoriginalhistoricalmaterialshavegonethroughseveralmajorcatastrophes,especiallytheAnshiRebellionandthemeleeofthewarlordsofthelateTangDynasty,resultingin"XiangShi'slegacy,andtherulerandbambooslipsaregone."Fortunately,therewasthenationalhistorycompiledbyWeiShuduringthetimeofSuzong,andinthelaterJinDynasty,itbecamethemainbasisforcompilingthehistoryoftheTangDynasty.AfterSuzong,therearefewerhistoricalmaterials.EspeciallyinthefivegenerationsofXuan,Yi,Xi,Zhao,andAiafterTangWuzong,eventhe"factualrecord"hasnotbeensaved,becauseZhangZhaoyuanandJiaWeiandotherscollectedvariousrumorsandnovelsinthe"timeofchaos".Thecompilationof"SupplementaryRecordsintheYearoftheTangDynasty"and"HeardandSeeRecordsintheThreeDynastiesoftheLateTangDynasty"madesomesupplementstohistoricalfacts.ItwasonlythirtyyearssincethedeathoftheTangDynastywhenthe"OldTangBook"wascompiled,andmanyhistoricalmaterialsweredirectlyobtainedfromtheTangDynasty."OldTangBook"preservedtheserarehistoricalmaterials.Thisisoneofitsgreatbenefits.Forexample,thesentences"JianShangJianZuo","ShangAscendedtheThrone","ShangChuHeir"andothersentencesincertainbiographiesareobviouslytracesrecordeddirectlyfromthecountry'shistoryandactualrecordsatthattime.Thehistoricalvalueisespeciallyvaluableifitdirectlyrecordstherecordsofthepeopleatthattime.Somebiographiesalsousedthe"characteristics"and"familybiography"writtenbypeopleintheTangDynastyatthattime.ThesefamilybiographiesareoftenwrittenbyfamousauthorsintheTangDynasty.Theynotonlykeephistoricaldatatruthfully,butarealsoverydistinctiveinwriting.ZhaoYi's"NotesontheTwenty-twoHistory"commentedthatthe"FengChangqingBiography"inthe"OldTangBook"is"YuBosadanddesolate","Thereisstilllifeunderathousandyears";"GuoZiyiBiography"writtenbyPeiBian,"Thebeginningandtheendareneatandtidy,andtherearenowords,soitcanbeseenthattheTanghistoriansareolderthanliterature."

Inthebiographiesofthe"OldTangBook",alargesectionoftheedicts,scripts,andmemorialsoftheemperorsandministersoftheTangDynastywasalsoquoted.Thecollectionof"BookofTangDynasty"wasretained.Preciselybecauseoftheabove-mentionedadvantagesof"OldTangBook",whenSimaGuangetal.revised"ZiZhiTongJian",theSuiandTangdynastiesusedalargenumberofmaterials.Ontheotherhand,theTangDynastyisastrongandprosperousdynastyinourcountry,andthemulti-ethnicunifiedcountryhasdeveloped.

Althoughthe"OldTangBook"hasflaws,italsohasindeliblevalue.Itpreservesawealthofhistoricalmaterialsandrecordsinmoredetail,whichisconvenientforreaderstounderstandtheprocessandspecificconditionsofhistoricalevents,soitisvalued.Forexample,therecordofpoliticalreformmeasuresduringtheTangShunzongWangShuwenGroup'sadministrationismorespecific.AlthoughthecontentofTangMuzong'slaterperiodismiscellaneous,italsorecordedalotofvaluablehistoricalmaterials.Forexample,inthe"YizongBenji"and"XizongBenji",theChongxunUprisingandHuangchaoUprisingwererecordedinmoredetail.ZhaozongandAidiBenjirecordedinmoredetailthesituationoftheseparatismofthevassalandtheeunuch'smonopolyinthelateTangDynasty.Becausethe"OldTangBook"hasdetailedandclearrecords,SimaGuang's"TangJi"partof"ZiZhiTongJian"roughlyadoptsthe"OldTangBook".

Theguidingprincipleforthecompilationof"OldTangBook"isthatthecompilationmustbebasedontheoldchapters,thatis,tobefaithfultotheoriginalmaterialsleftoverfromtheTangDynasty,andthehistoricalfactsarerecordedinaccordancewiththethinkingandunderstandingofthepeopleatthattime.Inthisway,ittrulyreflectstheideologicalunderstandingandthestyleofthetimesindifferentperiodsoftheTangDynasty.Becauseoftheseadvantagesof"OldTangBook",ithasanirreplaceablestatus.Foranotherexample,inthebiographiesofFuYi,DiRenjie,YaoChong,etc.,articlesagainstBuddhismwerepublished,fromwhichwecanexaminethesignificantinfluenceoftheprevalenceofBuddhismintheTangDynastyonpolitics,economy,andsociety,aswellasthestruggleofsecularlandlordsagainstBuddhism..SomeofthesearticlesaretheearliestpreservedoldTangbooks.

Although"XinTangShu"hasmadesomeadditionstohistoricalmaterials,especiallythechronicles,tables,andbiographiesofthelateTangDynasty,"XinTangShu"isintendedtoovercomethecomplicatedrecordsof"OldTangShu".Shortcomings,sothewritingnotesaretooconcise,makingitdifficultforreaderstounderstandthespecificsituation.The"NewTangBook"alsodeletedandrewrittenalargenumberofarticlespreservedinthe"OldTangBook",whichchangedtheoriginalfaceofhistoricaldocuments.Incontrast,the"NewTangBook"cannotreplacethe"OldTangBook"intermsofpreservinghistoricaldata.

Afterthe"NewTangBook"wascompleted,the"OldTangBook"wasnolongerhandeddown.Itwasn'tuntiltheJiajingperiodoftheMingDynastythatWenreninterpretedvarioussearchesandrepublisheditbeforeitbecamepopularintheworldagain.Itwasonlywhenthe"SikuQuanshu"wasrevisedduringtheQianlongperiodoftheQingDynastythattheoldandnewTangbookswereformallylistedintheofficialhistory.IntheRenzongperiodoftheNorthernSongDynasty,acenturyafterthecompletionof"OldTangBook",anotherpieceofTanghistorywascompiled,whichis"NewTangBook".
